Program Assistant - After School Program - Richmond, Virginia (Part Time)

 

The Faison Center is accepting applications for motivated individuals to work with our students as Program Assistants in our year-round After School Program. Faison’s ASP uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to enhance the lives of students with autism and related disorders. New staff members receive extensive hands-on training and work as part of a larger team to support our students.

This position is Monday - Friday, 2:00 - 7:00 PM.

  • Some hours and training will occur outside of the posted hours.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Experience working with children

  • Ability to work with individuals with autism

  • High school diploma

Physical Requirements include:

  • Lift 50 pounds

  • Bend at all joints fluently

  • Move in and out of and maintain a kneeling position for up to five minutes

  • Reach in all directions

  • Grasp using both hands

  • Move quickly in both confined and open spaces to avoid safety issues

  • Run in order to retrieve a student who is moving quickly away from staff

  • Maintain balance while lowering to a half squat position

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • Bachelor's degree

Teaching Assistant - Richmond, Virginia (Full Time)

The Faison Center is accepting applications for motivated individuals to work directly with our students as Teaching Assistants in our Day School program. New staff members receive extensive mentoring and work as part of a larger educational team to support our students’ learning objectives. The Faison Center is proud to house an ongoing professional development program to allow employees to further develop their own education and teaching expertise, allowing them to earn salary increases along the way. The Faison Center is a drug-free workplace and an equal opportunity employer.

Teacher - Newport News, Virginia (Full Time)

The Faison Center is looking for a motivated Classroom Teacher to join our twelve-month School in our Peninsula School program. The Classroom Teacher will oversee a classroom at The Peninsula School using the principles of applied behavior analysis to perform duties including student instruction and assessment, as well as supervision and performance management of a team of teaching assistants. This individual will also be responsible for assisting in crisis situations and participating in parent and school system meetings.

Teaching focus will include:

  • Communication skills

  • Activities of daily living

  • Leisure and recreation skills

  • Coping and self-management skills


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction

  • Presents instruction to students based on assessment data and IEP/IIP/VAAP/SOL’s

  • Collects and analyzes student and staff data to inform programmatic and training needs

  • Creates and uses functional, socially significant, and developmentally appropriate materials

  • Conducts assessments in preparation for instructional programming, IEP/IIP meetings, and classroom meetings
     

Organizational Behavior Management

  • Provides staff training using observations and individual/group meetings

  • Develops and reports progress on individual student goals based on assessment and student learning data

  • Addresses parent and/or local educational agency concerns and brings them to the attention of appropriate staff

  • Maintains daily schedule and ensures the planning of daily activities
     

Classroom Management

  • Assures performance issues are addressed and documented

  • Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace

  • Administers medication, following appropriate training, when needed

  • Responds to crisis situations as necessary, following appropriate training
